What to put in the message
- The occasion and the date. Valentine’s, a birthday, an anniversary or Christmas — each has a different budget and a different audience, and the answer changes with it.
- The budget. Whether it is one gift or several, and whether anyone is splitting it with you.
- The three objects he touches every day. This is the single most useful thing you can tell us, and it is usually enough on its own.
What we answer first
- Corrections. A wrong detail, a dead link, a product that no longer exists.
- Questions about a guide. Occasion, budget, or “would he really use this.”
- Requests. An occasion we have not covered yet, or a question a guide should answer and does not.
